So there's a new Silver Line rumor going 'round. Someone believes that the T will build a tunnel from downtown to Roxbury and run a subway version of the route to Dudley Square. Not only does he believe it, he's telling people this theory. I heard it second-hand through a friend this afternoon, but now I want to know how many other people have heard this. I told my friend that I think her source is wrong, but maybe I am. Did I miss some news?
I think you friend is wrong. They are trying to add a tunnel portion to the Silver Line so that there will be a seamless ride from its beginning to the airport (that's been talked about for years). In the news recently was the Silver Line going all the way up to Mattapan Square (still just an articulated bus) replacing the #28. The downtown route planned to use part of an existing undeground tunnel somewhere near Bay Village but the kibosh was put on that. Who knows what will happen. There are those that still hold out hope for light rail to replace the Silver Line but I think that's a dead and done deal.
